Who are we eating our morsel with?

"If I have eaten my morsel alone,"
    The Patriarch spoke with scorn;
What would he think of the Church were he shown
    Heathendom--huge, forlorn,
Godless, Christless, with soul unfed,
While the Church's ailment is fullness of bread,
    Eating her morsel alone?

"Freely you have received, so give,"
    He says, who has given us all.
How will the soul in us longer live
    Deaf to their starving call,
For whom the blood of the Lord was shed,
And His body broken to give them bread,
    If we eat our morsel alone!

                                 Archbishop William Alexander

I was extremely moved and convicted by this poem I read yesterday in L.B. Cowman's Streams in the DesertI know that I don't want to eat my morsel alone.  Who are you eating your morsel with?

  1. I loved this post Jessie. I feel your "boredom" with being done with school and wondering what is next. I am currently working at Wal-mart. I am thankful for a job as many cannot say that in this economy but at times I get discouraged. We spent 4 years and however many thousands and thousands of dollars for our education and it is now a waiting game to see what the Lord has in store for our lives. I will be praying that you continue to fill the empty time with things of eternal value- reading the Word, growing, and sharing. If you would pray for a co-worker of mine I would appreciate it. He is 27 years old and is a step above me at work. He and I got to have a pretty lengthy discussion last night as we were doing mundane things to close the store. He grew up going to church some with a friend of his but never really believed. As he said he "wasn't religious and it isn't that he doesn't believe. He just doesn't know what, if anything, he does believe." I invited him to church and he said thanks but church wasn't really for him. He has know for quite awhile that I believe and he respects it- I think he has just been hurt by "Christians" in the past so has no desire to seek anything as of now. Thanks friend. Sending love your way :) ~ Ashley Strom

  2. Thank you, Ashley...and thanks for reading my blog:) I definitely understand what you mean about being discouraged. How can we have so little after we have invested SO much?! But in all actuality, we have everything. It is such a crazy and backwards concept, but the best truth ever. I will definitely be praying for your co-worker. May the Lord continue to use you and lead him-open his eyes! Miss you girl!!
